“What is a Wavelet?”

Abstract: Wavelets, was formally created in 1980 by its pioneer Yves
Meyer of France. It had an immediate tremendous impact in several areas
like: Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Signal Analysis, Economics,
Biology, Statistics, Telecommunications, Medical Research, Image
Compression, Speech, Geophysics Signal Processing, Computer Vision
(multi-resolution techniques), Approximation Theory, Computer Graphics.
Etc. Here I present some of the accounts for the original motivation of
its creation, and what trigger the new discovery, in its basic fashion.
Then, I will define what a wavelet is.
