DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE, SCHOOL OF HEALTH AND MEDICINE

                      Lectureship/Senior Lectureship in Medical Statistics

Salary on grade 8 or 9 (£34,793 to £49,606)

Closing date	31 May 2008

The Department is one of three academic Divisions of a new School of Health and Medicine, the others
being Health Research, and Biomedical and Life Sciences. Work in statistical methods is expected to
grow alongside other activities within the School and in collaboration with other university departments,
the NHS and other public sector agencies.

The successful candidate will join a group that includes Professor Peter Diggle, a lecturer to be
appointed in addition to the current vacancy, an MRC Research Fellow, four post-doctoral researchers
and five research students. They will be expected to conduct their own programme of research in
statistical methods relevant to applications in the biomedical, clinical and health sciences, to
develop collaborative research with other groups in cognate areas and to take a prominent role in
the delivery of the statistical aspects of Lancaster University's contribution to Health Research
Design Services North West (RDS), a programme of work funded by the National Institute for Health
Research to provide advice on research design to NHS and University staff in developing grant proposals.

The post is available at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, according to the qualifications,
experience and track-record of the successful candidate. For an informal discussion, contact
Prof Peter Diggle, Department of Medicine (tel +44 (0)1524 593957, email p.diggle@lancaster.ac.uk).
