"Multivariate Data Analysis and Chemometrics"

Abstract
The purpose of the course is to give an introduction to the basic
techniques of chemometric data analysis and multivariate calibration. The
course is aimed at applied science students and researchers interested in
NIR (Near Infra Red) spectroscopy or in other areas where multivariate
calibration methods are used. The course begins with a brief review of
elementary statistics and matrix algebra, although some familiarity with
these topics would be an advantage in order to get the full benefit of the
course. First some important topics in multivariate data analysis are
reviewed, namely multiple and multivariate regression models, followed by
principal components analysis and principal components regression. At the
end follows an overview of the technique of partial least squares
regression, which is a regression technique especially suited for
regression problems where the number of data (n) is smaller than the
number of regressors (m).

Computer exercises using R may also be included.

O assunto talvez seja um pouco especializado,
mas começa com uma revisão de modelos lineares
(multivariados) e componentes principais. Depois vem PLS, que é a técnica
principal na área de chimiometria. É uma espécie de regressão com n<p, que
é um tópico cada vez mais importante, com relação à bioinformática etc.
