Senior Lecturer in Social Statistics
£44,930 to £56,511 per annum
School of Social Sciences - Social Statistics
The Division is internationally known for its research in sample surveys, official statistics and statistical modelling, and takes a strategic role in the development and promotion of the use of quantitative methods in the social sciences. Therefore, priority will be given to those with expertise in one or more of these areas, although applications from candidates with interests in any area of social statistics are welcome. The Division is also home to one of Europe’s leading groups of population scientists working on issues in demography and allied social sciences with applications in both developed and developing countries.
You will also be a member of Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute which brings together statisticians from across the University to form one of the largest groups in the country.
You should have a PhD in Statistics, Social Statistics or a related discipline, or equivalent postdoctoral standing and an established record of innovative research in statistics, including a track record of publications in major international outlets, and a firm interest in social applications of statistics. You should have proven ability to teach statistics to a high standard at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Your principal responsibilities will be to undertake research and to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students. The post is available from 1 September 2009 but a later start date is possible.
