Professional Development at RSS 2012 Conference
The programme for the RSS 2012 Conference to be held in Telford from 3-6 September includes many opportunities for professional development.
On Monday 3 September there is a packed and varied programme of pre-conference courses and workshops with an international line-up of speakers.
The one-day courses being organised are:
Applied multiple imputation in R (presented by Stef Van Buuren, Utrecht University, and Karin Groothuis-Oudshoorn, Twente University)
Bayesian adaptive methods for clinical trials (Scott Berry, Berry Consultants)
Bringing handling data to life in schools (RSS Centre for Statistical Education)
Spatial-temporal models in epidemiology (Gavin Shaddick, University of Bath, and Jim Zidek, University of British Columbia)
Understanding credit scoring (David Edelman, ThreeCs Ltd)
Two afternoon workshops have also been scheduled:
An introduction to changepoint models using R (Rebecca Killick, Lancaster University)
Improving graphs and tables (Jenny Freeman, University of Sheffield)
Registration is open for all these courses and workshops with discounts available until 25 July. You do not have to be attending the main RSS Conference in order to register for a short course.
Professional Development stream
For the first time at a RSS Conference there will be a dedicated stream of sessions devoted to professional development taken place throughout the main conference programme.
These will include an introduction to conference on the first morning, followed during the conference by workshops on presentation skills, creating interactive web graphics, statistical nous, funding opportunities, and revalidation for CStats.
Professional development throughout the year
Don’t forget that the Society organises professional development courses throughout the year.
This Autumn’s offerings include:
Inspirational Leadership within a Statistical Organisation (presented by Duncan Miles and Denis Greer); Wednesday 12 September and Thursday 13 September
Introduction to Modelling in R (presented by Paul Baxter); Wednesday 3 October and Thursday 4 October
Finally we are starting to plan our course and workshop programme for the 2013 Conference so please do send in suggestions or proposals for courses you would like to see run.
