Mathematics Graduate Program

The Graduate Program in Mathematics (PPG-MAT) at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (USP) offers Master’s and Doctoral courses aimed at training highly qualified researchers and professionals in the field.

The program boasts a modern and well-equipped infrastructure, including computer laboratories, study rooms, and a specialized library with an extensive collection of books and journals in Mathematics.

Each year, PPG-MAT offers around 30 courses across its areas of concentration, ensuring a comprehensive education and allowing students to explore different branches of Mathematics according to their academic and professional interests.

Furthermore, students with outstanding academic performance may apply for scholarships provided by funding agencies such as Capes and CNPq, enabling them to fully dedicate themselves to research and studies.

With a highly qualified faculty and a stimulating academic environment, the PPG-MAT at USP stands out as one of the leading research centers in Mathematics in Brazil.

The Graduate Program in Mathematics (PPG-MAT) is structured around areas of concentration, research lines, and projects, providing a solid and diverse academic foundation. The program’s main areas of concentration are:

  1. Algebra
  2. Analysis and Dynamical Systems
  3. Geometry and Algebraic Topology
  4. Logic, Set Theory, General Topology, and Combinatorics

Each of these areas is actively explored through various academic activities, such as regular seminars, often featuring visiting professors from national and international institutions.

The program’s research groups maintain dedicated websites, where their activities, events, and publications can be followed. Additionally, many of their members lead or participate in high-impact projects, such as Thematic Projects funded by FAPESP, Interinstitutional Projects, and other academic initiatives. Their research results in internationally recognized publications, further solidifying PPG-MAT’s excellence in the global scientific community.
