pessoal de Campinas (e outros, se tiverem interesse), a palestra abaixo parece ser super-interessante. Hexsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- PALESTRA NETWORKING AT HOME: DIRECTIONS IN CONNECTED COMPUTING FOR THE CONSUMER Dr. Kevin Kahn - Intel Architeture Labs ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LOCAL: FE-02 - Faculdade de Engenharia Eletrica e de Computacao/UNICAMP DATA: 25/04/01 - Quarta-feira HORARIO: 12:00 h ABSTRACT A variety of forces are converging that will significantly impact computing as seen by consumers. First, the advent of inexpensive PCs coupled with the natural development of a replacement market is increasing the number of homes with more than one PC. Second, broadband Internet connections are beginning to appear in volume for residential use. Third, networking technologies optimized for use by the consumer are emerging. Finally, computing capabilities and the Internet are penetrating many existing consumer devices as well as creating opportunities for new ones. This talk surveys what is happening in home networks and the forces that are encouraging their deployments. It then looks at some of the opportunities presented by these networks for new form factors for computing. Finally, it looks at some of the usage model changes that home networks, broadband Internet connections, and new or evolved computing devices may cause. SPEAKER Dr. Kevin C. Kahn is Director of Communications Architecture, Intel Architecture Labs, and an Intel Fellow. The Communications Architecture Lab develops advanced communication technologies for Internet, business and home uses of PCs. Dr. Kahn also coordinates Intel's participation in various relevant standards bodies and consortia. Since his first position with Intel as a Senior Software Engineer in 1976, Dr. Kahn has held a number of senior management positions in Intel's software and ystems divisions. He has been issued three patents and has numerous others pending. Dr. Kahn received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University in 1976 and 1973, and his B.S. in Mathematics from Manhattan College in 1972. The Purdue University School of Science awarded him with its Distinguished Alumni Award in 1995. He joined Intel immediately after completing his Ph.D.
