The dome of a Van de Graaff Generator can interact with electrostatic fields. But, could this dome interact with magnetic fields? Inside a Cathode-Ray Tube, electrons can interact with electrostatic fields. Also, electrons can interact with magnetic fields (for instance, see Teltron Tube). In a physics lab, a dome of a Van de Graaff generator is at rest (null speed, relative to the lab reference). But, relative to the center of the Milky Way, this same dome has the speed of 220 km/s. For instance, what could happen to a compass needle near this dome (with a positive or negative charge)? | ||
