We are advertising for an academic position and would like to advertise with

Readership in Statistical Methods in the Social Sciences
University salary scale £37,629 to £43,067 p.a. (pay award pending)
Nuffield College academic allowance £16,010 p.a.
The Department of Politics and International Relations and the Department of
Statistics propose to appoint a Reader in Statistical Methods in the Social
Sciences. The Readership is tenable from 1st April 2004, or an agreed date
thereafter, and will be held in conjunction with a Professorial Fellowship
at Nuffield College. This new post is a key element in the University´s
decision to establish a Centre for Statistical Methods in the Social
Sciences which will provide a focus for both teaching, mainly at graduate
level, and research.
Applicants should have an international reputation for research in
Statistics, preferably in relation to the Social Sciences, and the skills
and commitment to help establish and develop the Centre for Statistical
Methods in the Social Sciences. They should also have an established ability
to teach statistical methods to graduate students, to contribute to graduate
lecturing and to supervise research students.
Candidates will be considered on the basis of the selection criteria
outlined in the further particulars which can be obtained by emailing

Candidates are asked to submit written or e-mail applications in the form of
a letter which addresses the selection criteria accompanied by a full

17th December 2003. It is expected that interviews will be held in January
