Optimal Selection of Joint Mean-Covariance Structures in Mixed Models
(Specific Purpose Contract)

Postdoctoral Fellowship (3-years) on the Research Fellow Scale:
EUR33.5k-EUR40.8k (c£23.1k-c£28k), University of Limerick, Limerick,
Ireland.

A specific purpose position, funded by Science Foundation Ireland is
available to work jointly with the research groups of Professor Gilbert
MacKenzie (University of Limerick) and Dr Jianxin Pan (University of
Manchester), on developing joint mean-covariance models for longitudinal
studies.

The post is designed to accelerate the development of joint
mean-covariance models in the class of mixed models and to make the
resulting modelling technology accessible to the statistical modelling
community. The project will develop a complete set of methods for the
linear mixed model (LMM) before moving into more general GLMM and HGLM
settings.

Applicants will have a doctorate and an emerging research publication
track. In addition, a strong background in modern statistical methods,
statistical modelling, preferably in mixed models, and good
computational skills in R and Fortran or C or C++, are expected. Good
interpersonal skills and effective project management skills are also
desirable. The proposed starting date for the post is October 1st.

The newly created Centre of Biostatistics in the Department of
Mathematics and Statistics, University of Limerick, offers a pleasant
working environment (www.ul.ie <http://www.ul.ie/>). It is expected that
the successful candidate will be based in Limerick but will travel
regularly to Dr. Jianxin Pan's laboratory in Manchester and spend time
there.

Informal enquiries should be directed to gilbert.mackenzie@ul.ie and/or
jianxin.pan@manchester.ac.uk <mailto:jianxin.pan@man.ac.uk>. Further
particulars are available from Prof. MacKenzie.

Applications should comprise a curriculum vitae and a list of
publications together with the names, addresses, telephone, fax and
e-mail details of three referees (please use the HR academic posts
application form downloadable from: http://www.ul.ie/hrvacancies/)

The closing date for applications is August 18th, 2006.

Best

Gilbert
