There are still a number of PhD studentships available in
Statistics and Probability at Warwick for entry in 2008.
These studentships are funded by EPSRC and CRiSM and will
provide a tax-free stipend of 15K (for 08/09, which is
typically equivalent to a gross salary of approximately
19K) in addition to UK/EU fees. The CRiSM studentships
are not subject to nationality criteria. For full details
please see
http://go.warwick.ac.uk/stats/postgrad/phdopportunities

The Department of Statistics at Warwick was given the top
rating 5* in the most recent national Research Assessment
Exercise in 2001. It is one of the largest UK
concentrations of researchers in statistics and probability
with an exciting mix of research topics and a vibrant
community of PhD students.

The research interests of staff are very varied and cover
most areas within Statistics and Probability (with a very
strong synergy between these fields), and more details can
be obtained from the individual web pages of members of
staff, at
http://go.warwick.ac.uk/stats/staff/academic

Without being exhaustive, some examples of specific PhD
projects that we would be happy to supervise are:

Bayesian Infectious Disease Modelling and Inference (Prof
Gareth Roberts),

Detecting Change-points in Multi-dimensional Data with
Particular Application to Brain Imaging (Dr John Aston),

Estimation and Inference in Statistical Signal Segmentation
(Dr John Aston),

Monte Carlo for Stochastic Processes (Prof Gareth Roberts),

Penalized Likelihoods and Inference in Mixed Models (Prof
David Firth),

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any
queries. You can contact potential supervisors directly
about specific projects, or the Postgraduate Director
