pegando carona na mensagem do Artur Lemonte gostaria de convidar as muitas colegas que fazem da Estatística brasileira uma potência emergente a se tornarem membros do ISI. Há agora categorias de membro regular e membro eleito, e a participação é bem vinda de ambas as maneiras. Vejam o que diz a página do ISI sobre as categorias de membros:

"Elected Membership, meant for individuals who are established in their (statistical) careers and Regular Membership, for anyone who shares the values and objectives of the ISI."

Quanto aos colegas homens que também ainda não se afiliaram ao ISI, a chamada também é para vocês, pois queremos que quando o congresso do ISI chegar aqui, tenhamos uma forte representação na comunidade do instituto.

Achei interessante o texto "The whole women thing" da Nancy Reid, University of Toronto. Uma passagem do texto:

The position of women in academia is vastly improved from the days when
Elizabeth Scott was discouraged from studying astronomy, and from the days
when my probability professor could state in class that "women are not suited

for mathematics". Determined and forceful pioneers through the 1950s and
1960s, followed by much larger numbers of female students from the 1970s on,

has meant that women do have many opportunities to succeed in academic
work, and many are succeeding on a number of levels.
