Opening for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of environmental
spatial statistics. The position is in the Department of Statistical
Sciences (DSS) at Duke University under the supervision of Professor
Alan E. Gelfand.  The position involves methodological work using
hierarchical modeling for spatial and spatio-temporal data, with
applications focused on environmental factors contributing to health
disparities in pregnancy outcomes.  The work will involve extensive
interaction with scientific collaborators in the Nicholas School of
the Environment and the Duke University Medical Center.  In
particular, the work is directly supportive of the Southern Center on
Environmentally Driven Disparities in Birth Outcomes (SCEDDBO), one of
the research projects within the Children's Environmental Health
Initiative (CEHI) which is directed by Dr. Marie Lynn Miranda.  More
information on CEHI and SCEDDBO can be found at:
www.nicholas.duke.edu/cehi.

This is a two year position, with options for extension since the
project is funded through April 2012.  Qualifications are a PhD in
statistics or biostatistics with experience in spatial data analysis
and hierarchical modeling as well as programming experience in R or
Matlab.  Knowledge of C would also be a plus since the database
involves roughly 1.5 million births.  The position is available to be
filled immediately, and applications will be considered until the
position is filled.

To apply, send cover letter describing your research interests and
interest in the position, with CV and names of three references, to
alan@stat.duke.edu, or mail to

friendly work environments.
